Controversial incidents reviewed following Everton's draw with Manchester United

Everton have received verdicts on four contentious incidents from a former referee following their 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a dramatic equaliser on his debut, leading to several significant discussions in the aftermath.

Benjamin Sesko appeared to be at the heart of the main talking point after he headed in what seemed to be the winner from the bench.

Tyrique George had earlier brought Everton level with a powerful strike after Bryan Mbeumo's goal just after half-time.

Alongside these three late goals, there were also three controversial yellow card incidents, which ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett commented on.

The first involved Thierno Barry, whose penalty appeals were dismissed by John Brooks. Hackett believed that while Brooks made the correct initial decision, the Everton striker should have faced punishment. "John Brooks got this one spot on," he told Goodison News. "The player, Barry, went to ground far too easily and he is lucky that he did not receive a yellow card for his clear act of simulation."

Hackett also contended that Diogo Dalot should have been booked for pulling George's shirt, noting that Dalot was later cautioned for a similar offence against Jack Grealish. He stated, "Dalot pulled his opponent's shirt stopping a promising attack. John Brooks really should at that point issue a yellow card for unsporting behaviour."

However, Hackett supported Brooks' decision to book Harrison Armstrong for his foul on Bruno Fernandes, saying, "The yellow card to Everton midfielder Armstrong is correct. The player wrapped his arm around his opponent's neck."

Everton also received a favourable verdict regarding a potential penalty for United, with Sky Sports co-commentator Lee Hendrie agreeing that Brooks was right not to award a penalty for a foul by James Tarkowski on Matheus Cunha. "What an unbelievable run from Marcus Rashford," he remarked. "This is outstanding, Rashford at his best. Positive drive, stands on his feet in cleverness just to try to put the ball into the path of Cunha. Was it a penalty? Tarkowski gets enough on the ball, and he does...just. The penalty has been checked, and it's cleared. It's a brilliant tackle. This angle shows more, he just gets complete purchase on the ball. Is Cunha looking for it? Tell you what, it is a risky one but it's well worth it. It's outstanding defending from Tarkowski."
