UEFA introduces Clear Line platform for refereeing guidance

UEFA has unveiled Clear Line, a new repository for refereeing situations.

This platform is designed to provide guidance on how the Laws of the Game should be interpreted, as well as on VAR interventions, with the goal of ensuring a more consistent application of decisions.

The organisation noted that Clear Line features over 150 refereeing scenarios that offer direction on law interpretation and the appropriate use of VAR at both domestic and UEFA competition levels. It also emphasises that video review should only be utilised for clear and obvious errors.

UEFA Refereeing Director Roberto Rosetti stated: "Clear Line is designed to provide clear and precise guidance to match officials across European football, helping to ensure greater consistency in decision-making across competitions and a more standardised approach to the use of VAR for the benefit of the game.

"While no two incidents are ever identical and occasional mistakes remain inevitable, Clear Line will provide a central reference point for players, coaches, commentators and fans, helping to explain the rationale behind refereeing decisions and promoting a greater understanding of the decision-making process."
