Refereeing body acknowledges error in Monaco vs Strasbourg match

Ligue 1’s refereeing authority has conceded a significant mistake during AS Monaco’s match against RC Strasbourg Alsace on Saturday. In the 89th minute, Matthis Abline was fouled in the Strasbourg penalty area while the score was level at 1-1. Referee Éric Wattellier failed to notice the foul, and the VAR officials also missed it. The match concluded in a draw, with Paris Brunner’s long-range shot equalising after an earlier own goal by Sadibou Sané.

Following the match, Filipe Luís expressed his disappointment regarding the absence of VAR intervention, and the Principality club subsequently sent a letter to the refereeing body. On Monday, the LFP published their weekly review of controversial refereeing decisions, which included an analysis of the Abline incident. The refereeing authority has now acknowledged the mistake, stating that a penalty should have been awarded to Les Monégasques.

Monaco also raised concerns about the Strasbourg goal, citing a possible handball by a Strasbourg player in the lead-up to the free-kick that resulted in the goal. Source: Get French Football News
