Police investigate crutch incident involving referee after Oldham defeat

Greater Manchester Police has announced it is looking into an incident where a crutch appeared to be thrown at the referee after Oldham Athletic's loss to Crawley Town on Saturday.

Video footage circulating on social media shows a supporter throwing the crutch towards referee David Rock as he made his way to the tunnel at Boundary Park.

During the match, Rock issued red cards to two Oldham players, Kai Payne and Kane Drummond, within the first half hour of their defeat to the team currently at the bottom of League Two.

In a statement to BBC Sport, Greater Manchester Police confirmed it was aware of the incident and is conducting an investigation.

BBC Sport has also reached out to Oldham Athletic for their response.

Crawley's victory marked their first win in 11 League Two matches and intensified the pressure on the Latics, who are currently positioned 21st in the league table. Source: BBC Sport
