Clément Turpin to officiate Fenerbahçe vs Liverpool Champions League clash

French referee Clément Turpin has been appointed by UEFA to oversee Fenerbahçe’s crucial UEFA Champions League Matchday 4 encounter against six-time European champions Liverpool at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The 44-year-old FIFA-listed official, known as one of the most experienced match leaders in European football, will lead an all-French officiating team in Kadıköy.

Turpin will be supported by linesmen Nicolas Danos and Benjamin Pages, with Jérémie Stinat serving as the fourth official.

Willy Delajod will manage Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties, assisted by Éric Wattellier as AVAR.

This significant officiating appointment comes at a pivotal time for interim manager Dirk Kuyt, who is preparing the team following İsmail Kartal's exit.

Fenerbahçe currently sit 31st in the Champions League standings, having earned just two points from their first three group matches, and are in urgent need of a win to keep their hopes of knockout qualification alive.

The situation is further complicated for the hosts by an increasing list of defensive injuries.

Ghanaian centre-back Kojo Oppong was officially ruled out on Monday due to a muscular injury sustained during the weekend's 2–1 defeat to Göztepe, joining Nathan Aké, Jayden Oosterwolde, and Marco Asensio on the sidelines.

On a brighter note, star forward Mason Greenwood returned to full squad training on Monday after recovering from a severe viral infection and is anticipated to play.

Liverpool arrive in Istanbul looking to maintain their perfect European record, having won all three of their matches under Andoni Iraola, despite suffering a 1–0 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League at Anfield over the weekend.

Turpin's authoritative presence will be put to the test in what is expected to be a charged atmosphere with over 45,000 fans in attendance at Kadıköy.

Kick-off at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium is set for Wednesday, November 4, at 20:45 TRT (17:45 GMT). Source: Turkish Football
