Anthony Taylor takes on new role with Turkish Football Federation

English Premier League and World Cup referee Anthony Taylor has begun a new phase in his career by accepting the position of director of elite refereeing with the Turkish Football Federation.

This appointment follows the 47-year-old's recent retirement from officiating, marking the end of a notable 20-year career during which he managed 668 professional domestic matches and officiated at prestigious tournaments such as Euro 2020 and the 2022 and 2026 World Cups.

Trinity Chambers legal firm confirmed Taylor’s new position to the Press Association, with barrister Fraser Williamson representing him. In this important role, Taylor is responsible for leading the strategic and technical advancement of elite refereeing within the Turkish Football Federation.

His responsibilities include aiding the organisation’s goal to enhance its match officials and improve its refereeing programme, ensuring alignment with Uefa and Fifa standards.

This transition comes after a challenging time for Turkish refereeing, which has recently dealt with a betting scandal that surfaced last autumn, leading to an investigation by the TFF.

Sharing his excitement for the new challenge, Taylor remarked that he was "delighted" to assume the role.

Williamson commented: "Anthony’s achievements within football speak for themselves, and this role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the continued development of elite refereeing in Turkey.
